The Flags
The Yellow flag or caution flag indicates either the commencement of a rolling lap or a hazard on track. A static, or held yellow flag indicates to drivers that there is a stationary car up ahead and extra caution should be taken. A waved yellow flag indicates a full track caution and race suspension. This could be caused by a collision on track, a car in a dangerous position or debris.
All cars must slow down to a brisk walking pace in single file. Passing is not permitted. |
The red flag indicates that the race has been stopped. All cars should come to a stop within a quarter of a lap and remain stationary until a race official tells them that they may move. This flag may be deployed due to a driver in distress, a large accident, track repair. It is also used to signify the end of the race, after the chequered flag has been deployed.
